Communications Department Wins State Awards

The Northwest ISD communications department received 10 awards at the Texas School Public Relations Association conference in February.  The awards and recipients are as follows:

Crystal Certificate of Merit for Bond Election 2012 – Jerhea Nail, Emily Conklin, Rachel Bobbitt, Karen Wiechman

Gold Star and Best in Category for PIE Annual Report 2013 – Phil Beckman and Rachel Bobbitt

Gold Star for Got Growth Bond Video – Emily Conklin

The NISD communications department is recognized across the state and nation for their unique communication methods, strategic planning and creative initiatives.

NHS Speech Team Travels to Harvard for Contest

The Northwest High School speech team competed at Harvard University against more than 360 schools across the nation.  Three students advanced to the out rounds in Dramatic Interpretation:

Diamond Jackson – Double Octo-finalist

Ashleigh Allison – Octo-finals

Alexa Dilone – Quarter-finals; placed 20th in the nation out of 411 

BNHS Art Student Advances to Nationals

Byron Nelson High School senior Marisa Angeli received a Scholastic Art and Writing award advancing her to the national competition.  Angeli is recognized for her art piece “Through a Grasp” and will be notified of her national standing on March 17.  Byron Nelson High School art teacher Mylene Davis was also recognized as Angeli’s mentor.

Lakeview Elementary Wins Battle of the Books Contest

On February 17, Lakeview Elementary won first place at NISD’s fifth annual elementary Battle of the Books competition.  The winning team includes fifth graders Patrick Chippendale and Graham Mayfield and fourth graders Levi Hoffman, Amanda Silva and Arden Scearce, and third graders Gwen Baxter and Braelyn Hutcheson.  The Battle of the Books is a team competition designed to encourage a love and excitement for reading.  Students in third through fifth grades are eligible to participate.
