For an Unusual Valentine's Weekend Date, Try Dallas Comic Con

Where is it that a blue face or an unusual trekkie feature is not only encouraged, but commended?

That would be Dallas Comic Con, of course.

Now in its 14th year and under new management for the past three, Dallas Comic Con is a two-day pop culture fan convention where attendees can get up close to their favorite stars of television and the big screen, comic book illustrators and costume artists. Add to that more than 250 retailers specializing in comics, sci-fi, horror, anime and gaming. Whether it’s comic books from any era, original artwork, graphic novels, memorabilia, DVD’s, videos, games, toys or t-shirts, you will find it all at Dallas’ annual Comic Con.

Taking place Valentine's Day weekend at the Irving Convention Center, if you have major nerd love for the stars of pop culture, then Dallas Comic Con Fan Days, presented by FAN EXPO, might be a nice Valentine outing.

In years past, as many as 17,000 passionate fans have flooded the arena to get a glimpse of their favorite pop culture icon. This year’s highlights will include the stars of TV’s “Arrow.” You can get an autograph or professional photo taken with Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen/Green Arrow), Katie Cassidy (Laurel Lance/Black Canary) and John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn).

Arrow’s spin-off series “The Flash” brings another classic DC Comics series to Dallas Comic Con. Danielle Panabaker (Dr. Caitlin Snow / Killer Frost) and Robbie Amell (Ronnie Raymond/Firestorm) appearing both days.

Bruce Greenwood of “Star Trek” fame will be available for autographs and celebrity photos on both days of the Con. He is best known for his role as Captain/Admiral Christopher Pike in the “Star Trek” film and its sequel, “Star Trek Into Darkness.” Other notable guests include Sean Pertwee and David Mazouz from the hit Fox show “Gotham,” and “Boy Meets World” star Will Friedle.

The Cosplay Red Carpet is fascinating, too, and is a fun time to see fans dressed up in everything from super heroes to sci-fi/fantasy characters.

Different this year at Comic Con, the stars of the “Dukes of Hazzard” are set for a reunion. According to Dallas’ Comic Con’s PR representative Susan Friedman, fans can meet Bo, Luke and Daisy Duke (John Schneider, Tom Wopat & Catherine Bach), score an autograph, and have a photo taken with them. Fans will also have the chance to get up close with the General Lee, the car made famous in the TV series that ran from 1979 to 1985.

“For the fans, it’s an unforgettable experience to come face-to-face with their favorite celebrities,” said Dallas Comic Con Show Director Andrew Moyes. “Dallas Comic Con Fan Days is a weekend celebration of the die-hard affection fans have for their favorite stars of film, television, comics, video games and more.”
